Tonight my father, William Ballentine, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Davidson County. Bill, as he was known, was a servant to his community having served 30+ years in law enforcement before retiring with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles License and Theft Bureau.
After his law enforcement service, Bill proceeded to remain active in the Asheboro and Randolph County community. He was an outspoken advocate for the Asheboro Police Department and the Randolph County Republican Party.
Bill married Jane Gong in 2018 in Hawaii. She remained faithful and by his side since the day they wed. Bill’s last words were to his wife: “I love you”.
He loved his granddaughters, especially Lillie. He couldn’t get enough of seeing her. He loved and saved every picture and video he ever received or took of her. On his final day of consciousness, he gathered up some strength to remind us, “She’s a good girl”.
Bill Ballentine’s passing will leave a void, not only in the life of those who loved him, but in the community that knew him. Bill will never be forgotten for his contributions to the community and to the world he sought to make a better place.
My father’s selfless service was my inspiration to get involved in politics, and I will continue to carry the torch he lit long before I was born.
I will miss my father deeply. A service will be held in the coming days and details will be forthcoming. Our family asks for peace and privacy as we mourn the loss of one of the best people we have ever known.
I will always love you, Dad. Thank you for everything you ever taught me. It has undoubtedly made me a better man.
